I use dexron III, it's fine. in fact my tranny shifts better now than when it was new. ;)

when I did my engine swap I put in dexron III. the tranny has 170k miles on it and it shifts better than it did when it was in my 325.

im just curious because my bentley's manual says to use dexro II, but my mechanic, who was all sorts of BMWs in his shop, says dexron III is what he uses on all E30s.

follow up question regarding ATF.. will too much ATF be a bad thing? say 1inch above the max mark? i've heard too much oil is bad because it foams up and it incorporates air into the oil, or something like that.

          thanks!

yes, if you put too much in just crack open the drain plug and let some out.

dexron III supercedes dexron II. you could even go crazy and use mobile one synthetic atf
