I usually use the mahle, but a few times I've used whatever Pep boys has on offer. In my experience, they all work about the same.

i usually use mahle/mann, but if I can't wait then I go to napa and get a Napa Gold filter

I think blunt had a whole ton of filters for a good deal. I usually buy them 5-10 at a time so waiting for them to be shipped isn't a big deal.

I think its a 3421. I saw the package in my trash that I took out tonight. Go to autozone and look through their book. Thats where I got the number from. Or just call Autozone and make them look it up for you. I generally use OEM or Bosch filter with Castrol oil.

If you're set on Bosch oil filters you can use: 72165, 72189, or 3421

I used Bosch's part finder on their site to find this out.

Did anybody else notice a huge drop in the amount of time it takes for the oil pressure light to go out on startup after switching to an oil filter with an anti-drain back valve in it?

thanks everyone! the 3421 is the number that i remember.
I had them look it up at the store but they didnt even show any bosch filter for my car, even though they do carry the correct one.
It happened last time, but i was able to go look on my car to check what number it was, this time i didnt have that filter on it.

I usually get a few filters at a time, but i havent ordered any new parts in a while...
What with an e30? how is that possible....?!?!

                thanks again for the replies.

You can also get Mahle/Mann filters at Napa Auto, don't know about yours but our store keeps them in stock.

I've never asked, around here you just get a deer in the headlights look when you mention BMW. I try to make it a habit of remembering part #s and asking for them directly.

They have a lot more stuff now. I get Lemforder, certain OEM stuff, ATE, Pagid, Hella ETC all from NAPA most of the time now if I can wait for them to order some of the less common parts. I look up my own P/N on ALTROM Groups' website cause your right the sales guys get lost with these parts.
