the knob?? the handle inside the car?
If i had a slim-jim i could do it im sure, but a coat hangers are too flimsy most of the time, unless the weather stripping is already all hogged-out on your car and you don't give a shit.

instead of metal, I use just a wedge of wood. easier on the glass.

as cheesy as the string thing looks, i may try that if i cant round up a slim-jim....ghetto fabulous stuff seems to work wonders in certain situations.

        "Lemme get my tool."
        "That's not a tool that's a damn brick."

That paper technique is pretty cool, but best of luck. I can slimjim my escort in seconds, however that's so simple compared to an E30's locking mechanism.

There might be another way out of this if you explained how exactly they got locked in your car. I too thought it was nearly impossible to do.
I retired my E30 for now...

Do all E30's not allow you to lock the drivers door while its open? If so he would have had to lock the passenger door then chuck the keys in, then close the passenger door.

Unless, the keys are in his trunk? That would be easy enough to do. Lock the trunk while it open, put your keys inside then close the lid.

Might be easier if you just call the AA or whatever you call the autoclub people in the states.

I think you mean AAA. AA is who he would call if the car's been sitting there for 2 weeks and he turns to the bottle.

Seriously though, call a locksmith or the dealer.

I cant see the drawing he made cus I am at school but...

                  1. Long skinny piece of paper with a hole punched in one end. Tie a string around that hole.
                  2. Hold the opposite end of the paper and push the paper through the door seal. Make sure you hold the other end of the string so you dont lose it inside the car. You have the string in one hand, and the paper in another outside of the car. And the other end of the paper inside the car, has the string attached to it through the hole.
                  3. Try getting the string wrapped around the door button thing where it sticks out of the door panel at the back of the door.
That make any more sense? :)

                    AA vs AAA....

"Hi I'm Jim, and uhhh,yea.... personally I don't have any trouble holding my liquor, but I'm piss about our insurance premiums!"

(from the guy who walks into the wrong meeting....)

Can the sunroof be forced into the back position?

                    Does this help?

that site is the shit, thats what i was searching for, for hours the past couple of days with google, and other forums.

                      GOOD shit. Thanks-----

I tried using a coathanger but couldnt press the glass in far enough, while manuevering the coat hanger....and after several weird looks from neighbors and people walking by ((I live downtown in a college town ---Iowa city, Ia---Go Hawks))got pissed and went inside, and remembered why 'stress management' is a required course for my major. :D

No, but I should be able to get it....if not, Im just going to punch a fucking window out.

Anyway, I got it unlocked w/ homemade, modified version of a "slim jim" that goes under the glass....

                          like 20 seconds.

i thought e30s were designed specifially so that you can't unlock the door by pulling on the knob/button. on my e30, the button is just about flush with the door panel. i can't even pull it up using my fingers.
