Would you soak your throttle body in a carb cleaner tank

Hello everyone,

I got my parts and this weekend I hopefully will cure my little bimmer.

I have a rough idle which after some adjustment have calmed down but I am throwing a o2 sensor code when it warms idles.

Goin to put in the nearly new afm and fix the mal ajusted throttle position sensor and throttle stop screw this saturday.

I want to rehab my throttle body while I have it out of the car.

Any ideas.

I am debating wether or not to soak it in carb cleaner tank that I have. Are those acidic and would it damage the alluminum.

OR should I soak it in marvel mystery oil and work that through it. It might clean and lube it at the same time. OR simple green soak it.

OR better yet Leave it alone and do the projects that my wife would like me to do and maybe score.

I don't think cleaning the throttle body will do much for you.. soaking it in the oil or simple green is probably good enough.

We do this pretty often at work, 3M makes a 'Throttle Plate & Intake Cleaner' made just for this. Some cars have a protective coating applied inside the TB - this stuff is formulated so that it will not damage this coating, and is safe to use around electronic controls. Part number 08866 - I know Carquest carries it.

May want to clean out the Idle Air Circuit while you've got it off - seen clogged IAC passages screw with idle quality many times.

If you want to clean the TB then take it apart. Its not that hard to completely disassemble it.

putting it back together is the hard part..........
