Lock up rear wheels with e-brake while driving?

Can anyone lock up their rear wheels with the ebrake? Or are e30 e-brakes not desighned to allow locking?

I wanted to try some e-break slides - But I can't get it to lock. (as if my car is not tail happy enough)

    Mine did it quite well.

Never tried, but maybe if you pay someone with a shitbox e30 $5 or so they may give in. :)

Just put in new shoes and adjusted them properly.

I can lock the rears on throttle and off.

You run a very good chance of the compound delaminating if you do that. They do not like heat. I pulled my rear rotors off and all four shoes had half of their compound fall off even though there was tons of material left on them. I assume from the previous owner driving with the ebrake on and the heat destroying them. A replacement set cost $96 from the stealership. If you are dead set on doing it I would recommend getting a junk pair of shoes and having them bonded to a Ferodo or similar compound. If you can't find someone near you that can do that there is a least one company that I know of on the web that does race compound shoes for vintage motorcycles. Let us know how it works out.

My dad decided to try an ebrake turn at an autox last year in his e30 M3, these were the results:

Swing wild, brake later, don't apologize.

But - there is no heat being built up when they are locked! I think that's a bit different than driving with it on.

i believe he was talking about the massive amount of heat that they will have to take before the wheels stop moving.

if I tried to put my ebrake on with the car moving, all 4 wheels would lock up.. so no. ;)

ya you can lock them up, its not good for them and they should'nt brake the whole idea is that its an emegency brake you use it if your normal ones fail, thats why they have a seperate drum.

i know this does not help but when you finnally learn to lock 'em up it comes in handy when you got a tailgater on your ass. just lock 'em up and smoke 'em out. works like a charm ;)
