whould an '90-'91 325i with ~170k mil. for $3000 worth the money? And what problems would I expect from that car? The guy has all the books and records.

Depending on condition $3,000 doesn't sound too bad. You definately could talk it down though. But like I said, it depends on condition. Find any flaw in the car, and you should be able to talk it down at least a little bit.

But dont let the mileage scare you, m20's can easily if properly taken care of go over 200,000 miles. But thats IF it was properly taken care of.

The second car sounds better if its in good condition. The first one will cost you 3k just to get it in good condition. By the way its good to see another Texas person on the board....this states finally starting to get some e30 enthusiasts.

I saw 3 E30 in here in only 3years, two of them were pre '87. the condition was pretty bad, so I don't expect car to be in "very good" condition.

1000-1200. It's got a low mileage motor and tranny, and the frame doesn't look too bad. It would be a fine "Driver", but nothing I would sink money into. Worst case, as everyone else says, it's a parts car, and you could get an easy 5-600 for the motor.

if you are willing to spend $3000, just be patient, something will come along. Don't rush yourself and buy a pos.

I doubt that, look at the rust starting to form. BTW, Im from Plano. During the week I'm in FW for grad school but usually go back on the weekends to work. Let me know if you need me to check the car out and low ball the guy. heh.

when you get the funds you could drop the tranny and do a conversion if you really want a manuel

When I'll pay off the car to my dad, it's going to be mine, so he said that I can do anything I want to it. How much whould a tranny cost with everything I will need? used/new

It isn't worth it. Hold out until you can find a 5 speed, unless you are into autos or something.

How to neg. go look at the car make an appt. for a free inspection check the day you go to look at the car at the BMW dealer in town and then show up back up after the test drive with the over-inflated repair bill to the tune of $2300 or something, and tell him you'll give him $500 to take it off his hands. Worked for me on my first IX BMW dealer said $2400 in repairs, which translates in $400, and knocked $2000 off the $6000 he wanted for the car. This was 4yrs ago. Try it if he is not a mech. he will buy it.

if i got a dollar for every car i thought was going to be "the one", i'd have a small fortune. looking at 15 year old cars, you are bound to find many issues making them less of the gem u thought they were by looking at an ad, or talking to the seller over the phone.

go see the car. futile making posts like this. good luck w/ your search... seems to me u are probably too anxious to get in the drivers seat of an e30.
