    e-fan CFM?

Anyone know approx CFM required to keep the e30 at proper running temp? I'm sure its different per motor, but any help is appreciated.

    pusher - 2000cfm
    puller - 1600cfm

they're really only needed when idling in traffic, it will probably never come on with the car moving at any decent speed.

It depends somewhat or where you are. Here in the south I've found that it takes a 16" 2300cfm fan to handle worst case conditions.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          pusher or puller?

hottest day I've ran was about 101f, with a 16" 2100cfm pusher. Cooling the engine was never an issue, however people's jacks and tools sinking into the expensive asphalt skid pad because it got so hot was..

hmmm...well judging on how hot its been thus far, I might should look into something fairly large. What if i use it in coordination with the aux. fan that's already there?

Mine came on for the first time ever today...sittin in a harbor freight parking lot.

Ive got a Flexalite 16in with curved blades set up as a pusher..it sits less than an inch from the front of the RAd on some brackets I made.

When it spooled up it dripped the needle immeadiatley, M42 RAD btw

the aux fan is extremely loud and draws a lot of power. I'd look for a bigger puller fan if you want some margin of safety. If you have no A/C, I'd remove the stock aux fan altogether and use the wiring harness and relays to drive your new fan, with the lower temp thermoswitch from an E36 M42 car.

Where'd you stumble upon these numbers exactly? :p

just a ballpark based on my experience; the pullers can be lower CFM because they're more efficient, and 2000cfm pushers seem to work fine with the AC condenser removed.

well I can get a SCREAMING deal on a 16" fan but it only does 1500cfm. I was thinking about putting a kit together for everyone to replace the clutch fans with something that wasn't pulled from a junk yard for a reasonable price. It just appears it may be a tad on the low side for those who may really sit in hot situations...
