Anyone get a quote to have fuel pumps replaced?

I'm most likely going to need to have my fuel pumps looked at and replaced. Just wondering if anyone has a dealerships price quote for work like that.

I'd do it myself, but not sure how long it would take and I don't have a garage (I have to park on the street!).

Maybe I'll do it myself - but looking for an idea of the cost for a local San Diego dealership to do it... just the work - I'll come up with the fuel pumps on my own.

well now if you have an intank fuel pump its really easy not really sure where the out of tank pumps are but for the intank one you pull the bottom part of the back seat out and on the passengerside there is a rectangle hatch take out the 4 screws then you can see your fuel pump unbolt the fuel level sender and the 2 hose clamps and pull off the 2 connectors and then drop in your new pump

Wow - that does seem easy... I thought there was more to it... I've got a manual (the CRAP Haynes manual) and it's worthless! Do you know if there's any easy test for the fuel pumps? Like, listen for a click or something that doesn't involve multimeters?

      Thanks for the reply!

well if you just take the hatch off and start the car you should hear a sound like an electric motor, thats your pump, but it doesn't necisarily mean its putting out to right psi, could be working but not enough psi and yeah i know what you mean about hte haynes manuel i have one i hate it it doesn't even cover my engine they ignored it completely i guess cause its the last year, its retarded anyways and maybe you can look this up

buy a bentley manual.. it's not perfect by any means, but it's the best E30 manual by far (aside from maybe the factory manuals).

if you have a single intank pump (88 and later cars), I'd do it myself. the pump alone is around $200 though, so make sure it's the problem (and not a bad FPR or filter). either way get ready to fork out some cash.

About six months back my fuel pump gave in. I got the last new one in the country from the stealer for $175. Apparently I lucked out because it was marked for disposal. E36 ones aren't that expensive and they're also intank, anyone know if you can just slap one on?
