    Question :M10 EGR

So I Failed Smog ( damn California)

I sent a copy of my print out to a guy I know who is smog certified but unemployed and he told me
Looks like your EGR is not working. Everything looks ok to me. You know where the EGR is? Find it and with the car running press underneath it to close the EGR. If the car stumbles, then it's working, if not, you have to either take it off and replace it or clean it.
So, my question is , is this true? also, I don't know where my EGR valve is

Can someone point me as to where it is and how to clean it?

    BMWs don't have EGR valves.

Yeah, but they're smog exempt. :)

maybe he means the charcoal canister bypass valve.. which E30s DO have.

charcoal canister just recovers fuel vapors from the tank i thought. I can't think of any emission device on e30's besides the o2 sensor and the cat.

it burns off excess vapors by venting them into the intake. I don't know for certain that M10s had them, but the 6cyl cars did.
