    Slight stalling during acceleration...

It doesn't happen very often, but i'm sure it could cause some damage somehow...
When i'm driving, and it's happened in all gears but 5th, my whole car jolts and decelerates for less than a second, the check engine light blinks(sometimes once, sometimes twice) and it goes right back in to accelerating...
The car runs fine except for cold mornings it kinda chugs for the first rev I give it, but other than that its flawless...
Anyone ever ran in to this? Any help would be hella appreciated,, i don't wanna fuck anything up...
Oh this is on an 88 325ix

if its only when its cold its prolly your ICV located on the back of the engine on the passenger side, there is a little cylinder with wires going to it and a vacume in and out thats the ICV its for cold starts lets in xtra air thats probably the cluprit, pull it out and clean it they usualy jam up over time if cleaning it doesn't work then you'll have to get a new one.

what happens when you start it cold, but don't touch the accelerator? does it die?

I've had a similar problem and it turned out to the the throttle posistion switch. you could try unplugging it and see if it goes away. it's located under the throttle body--you'll need to disconnect the battery to reset the ecu afterwards, and again when you plug it back in. that's how I figured out what was wrong with my car. disconnected the switch, and no more cutting out/check engine light.

hey nando, is this part for the cruise control? i am having the same problem...thought it was just me, but mine isnt only when its cold, it happens randomly, and almost always when at cruising speed with my foot steady on the gas...some days it wont happen at all, other days it will happen 2 or 3 times in a row and then go away...i thought it was my fuel pump...

no, it's a switch that tells the ECU if the throttle is fully opened or closed. my cruise control still works fine with it disconnected, so they are unrelated.

nah idles fine when I don't touch anything... The problem doesn't happen alot, but thats kinda what bothers me about it.. i'm afraid one time it's just gonna cut out... if it gets worse, I'll try unplugin that sensor.. thanks for the info!!

I have a similar problem, little rough when i first rev it after cold start (Cold canadian winter mind u)
It also those that funnny thing where it stops accelerating and the check engine light comes on and they bam it starts going again, all happens in a matter of seconds.
This only happens when the car is cold and I try to push it too hard, most times over 4.5k-5.5k.

After the car warms up fully it goes away, it pulls fine straight to redline.
I ordered 8mm wires from IE, plugs, cap, and rotor.....I doubt thats the prob, but i havne't chnaged those in the while so im hoping it will be.

Freezing temperatures does werid things to cars, dammit why can't i live in cali.

this seems to happen on a lot of E30s.. mine did this last year, but this year it became unbearable. any of you run check engine codes? I'd like to know what's really causing it. I do know that once I disconnected the TPS, it stopped.. haven't had a chance to rewire it yet.

it stopped? i ran self diagnostics and it came up with 1222 which is the o2 senosor controll but that wouldn't really do it my buddy drove for like 2 years with no 02 sensor and his car ran fine.

yeah, been driving around for a few weeks with the TPS disconnected.. much better than having the car randomly cut out on the freeway. I got a new TPS but my wiring is fucked and I can't repair that until I replace the coolant hoses on the throttle body..
