the brake lining light doesnt necessarily mean that the pads are out, it might just be the sensor,
had the same problem on my car, tied off the sensor, and i just keep an eye on my pads, when
i overhaul the brakes ill throw a new sensor on it too.
The key, any reputable locksmith will duplicate your key, i had a spare made the first week i
got the car for 6$, still havent used it, but its piece of mind. And i just picked up a lighted
blank key for about 25$ that ill take to the same locksmith to cut, this time will cost about
15$ because its a steel key and not the brass/alum that they had at the shop.sigpic

I have bought steel blanks from the dealer and had copies cut of my keys and also used cheap blanks before. I must say that although the BMW blanks cost three times as much they are way better quality.
It doesn't hurt to get the keys cut based on VIN though as a copy of a worn out key will be just that: A copy of a worn out key. It may not fit properly.
