What is the difference between a "Street" cage and a "Race" cage?

    What is the difference between a "Street" cage and a "Race" cage?

    I hear those terms thrown around quite frequently.

    Are "street" cages just for show? I heard that some more lenient events which require cages allow "street" ones? :roll:

      You mean a roll bar? I've actually had this discussion with a Miata owner, and he couldn't give me a clear definition either. All that came out was they have less bars?

              i want a roll cage on every car i own.
              especially my 88 yota...the door bars are just L's...and if i did get a side impact, that thing would cut through the cardboard, and probably me....

              at least side bars imo.
              all i need, is to learn to weld and buy the stuff and do it.
              i would love a stealth roll cage, maybe smaller bars, but more of em.... (been in a few wrecks to know what a cage can save)

              if i could have anything, (harrier jet), i would really like an ejection seat, that would remove me completely right before the impact, (and hope im not in a tunnel ) :P

                Different organizations have different specs for how much tubing should be in the car (ex: single door bar vs. double door bar) how thick the tubing should be and other tubing specs like ERW or DOM.

                Street cages "generally" allow you to do an install without tearing up the interior of your car too much and make life with the car in a daily driving situation easier. Getting in and out of a full race cage is fun in a dukes of hazard way, but after a long day at work, I wouldn't want to sandwich myself in just to sit in rush hour.

                  this.

                  a street cage is usually bolt in and fully reversible to stock with no damage. generally, its a back seat only cage. extends from the seats to the roof.

                  a race cage is welded in, the interior has to be stripped, and it is not (easily) reversible. a race cage covers the entire interior of the car. generally tubes are welded to the a-pillars and roof and run all the way back. and the door openings have tubes across them as well.
