    s14 swap?

I'm just curious and I know it might not be "worth" the time and money to some of you, but... can you do an s14 swap using the same motor mount arms from the m3? To do the swap I would need the motor and ECU, and I can make other things work probably right? Or would I need an m3 radiator as well? Is the m3 transmission(getrag 265 I think) m3 specific? Or can you use the getrag 260 from the 325i's? Mods, Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place. If it is, please move to the correct location.

what are you trying to accomplish? did you score a s14 you dont know what to do with? the 265 isnt specific to the m3. but your 260 wont work. it sounds like the project youre considering could get expensive quickly and wouldnt net you any great results. the s14 in a non m car doesnt appeal to me unless youre talking about a 2002. id sell it or save it and find an 02.
youd need a radiator and a shitload of other things you havent mentioned.
tranny, driveshaft,4.10,harness,etc,etc and you still wouldnt have the brakes or suspension. or sell the s14 and but a m50/s50

Yeah, this swap would quickly eclipse an M50 in terms of difficulty and price. Just stick to the proven setup, and put a 24V in there.

An S14 swap can be done.....relatively straight-forward process. West coast BMW tuning wiz Bill Arnold has an '87 or '88 325i cabrio with S14 power and E30 M3 suspension/brakes to boot. I saw this car at SIG Fest West a couple years ago and talked to Bill about the swap. He explained that very little needs altering in order to make it happen.

But like its already been mentioned, this is not very economically 'wise' due to the stratospheric costs of building & maintaining the S14. I guess if you had a modified chassis you just couldn't part with and you were willing to drop the money to do it, an S14 into a non ///M body is very possible.

Personally, I would start with an E30 M3.....all the work was done at the factory :nice:

        Jon

P.S. Just for the record, Bill did this swap since he landed a totaled E30 M3 with all the necessary drivetrain parts undamaged and in good working order. The cabrio was a straight and clean car in need of mechanical help.

i don't believe that it will be all that hard, however it's not worth it. I LOVE the s14 engine, it is nearly (if not) my favorite engine that bmw has made for many reasons. However, if you're doing it for the power, the m50 really is the enconomical way to go. If money isn't your problem, THEN i say do it. The italian 320is with the 2.0 liter s14 was a kick ass car and was a total sleeper ....

With the m50 a lot of things have to be modified. I have never done an engine swap before and I thought an s14 would be easy to put into a non-M e30. Motor, radiator, dif, tranny, driveshaft, ECU, etc. I dont think I would have to bend hoses mix/match different model parts and what not. Just an idea I was thinking about and wondering how it would go. The Italian 320is is what got me thinkin about it. Just like uofom3 said...total sleeper. Would a stroker/turbo m20 be cheaper?

Read my mind. If you really want more power and have issues with swaps, go one of these routes. If you're on a budget the stroker is cheap to do, really.

Judging from S14 swap thoughts, that concept is beyond his cranium.

I understand thats the most cost effective way to go faster but... it can only go so fast correct? I'm sure that everybody that does an m30/m50/s50 swaps understand that as well though right? I'm just looking for information on a swap like that. Sorry I dont know everything like you do Rob.
