    clutch not grabbing after shift

So I just went for a little joy ride around the block and noticed something terrible. Did a mean burnout turning off the block and when I shifted to 2nd the rpms stayed up around 4k and my car accelerated super slow. I figured it wasn't really a big deal since its happened before but now it does it during regular driving. Wtf. I checked my brake fluid and its filled to the top. Sounds to me like my clutch needs to be replaced but I'm really hoping otherwise. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas other than clutch replacement. I have a brand new bmw clutch in the box. Just don't have the time, knowhow, or work space to replace it myself and I'm pretty much broke so idk what to do. I could pay someone to fix it but all my local mechanics that I know are pretty much thiefs and will hold on to my car for a week.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping due to abuse from doing burnouts and such.

You glazed your clutch to hell. If you feel it start to slip when you don't want it to, get off it and let it cool down.

Yeah I noticed today it worked fine. No more 5k burnouts but I still wanna install the new clutch. Anyone know anyone in jersey that's good with e30s?

Better yet, anyone have any idea what it SHOULD cost for a mechanic to install a new clutch if I already have one unused

I would guess on a book number of 6-8 hours of labor. From that and NJ labor rates you can come up with an estimate.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Sounds like 3 - 600 prob more going by the mechanics around here. I think I need to stop driving like a nut but my slow mobile is too fun to quit.

$300 is a good price and if you find a mechanic willing to do it for that, i'd go for it.

also, wtf? say you're doing burnouts and then complain about your clutch?

                    gg.
