    325i Gas Tank into 318is

    Some back story:

I've finally determined why my pump died...rust in the tank. No matter which way I look at it the tank has to come out. Since my car started life as a 318is, meaning it has a 14.5 gallon tank, I'm thinking about purchasing a 325i tank because it has a 16.5 gallon tank which would effectively increase my range.

I know that the two systems are different, but is this possible or would it just be to big of a headache?

This can be done, but it would probably be cheaper to acid clean and seal the tank you have.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Hey...haha I've seen countless posts from you regarding fuel related things, you're definitely the man when it comes to this stuff :)

The thing is that I'm not completely worried about the cost of switching. I would rather have the longer range...

I'm just curious what the process would be...The main and pre pump would probably be necessary if I want to install an accumulator as well right? I haven't been able to find any large pics showing the gas line arrangement.

          Wow awesome.

Can you get me close pics of the lines shown here:

Strange that it doesn't have an opening on the left...or maybe thats from a 318i/is?

dude8383, did you ever do this modification?

I'm interested in getting a longer range, and possibly upgrading to a lift pump / main pump setup to avoid fuel starvation as the tank gets low.

Fred, I decided not to do this because it would have involved the purchase of two fuel pumps.

It can definitely be done though without a doubt. Seems you know the deal already though. I was going to purchase an accumulator from Erik which would have made this whole setup work rather well.

Maybe you can try a more affordable approach by using the foam bladders or whatever they call em?
