Hi, sorry for posting here, but I don't have rights to post in the suspension forum yet...
I need help from all of you suspension experts out there...
I just bought an e30 1991 318is and gave it much needed suspension update.
The following parts were replaced (all bought from pelicanparts.com oem standards)
1. Front & Rear Strut Mounts
2. Front Tie Rod ends
3. Left and Right control arms
4. Left and Right control arm lollipops and lollipop bushings
5. Front and Rear KYB shocks (only parts not bought from pelican. I know they are not the best, but I'm working on a budget)
6. I took it to get an alignment afterwards at a local mechanic shop.
The car drives 100 times better than before, but I have the following problem:
1. Lets say I turn right and then bring the steering wheel back to center I'm left with a small steering pull to the right.
2. Lets say I turn left and then bring the steering wheel back to the center I'm left with a small steering pull to the left now.
I thought it was an alignment problem, but even after I took it to get aligned still same problem. The shop that did the alignment said they think it's a problem with the strut mount. They also noticed the same thing I did with the steering an they said that alignment is not the problem.
My thoughts:
1. I left the tie rods either too far out, or too far in.
2. When I built the strut assembly back together after changing the shocks I must have done something wrong.
One think I did notice was before removing the old shock from the strut was that I could spin the strut mount with my bare hands very easily. After installing the new shock into the strut and putting the springs back in, both left and right strut mounts would not spin with pressure from my own hands. I figured it was because they were knew. Maybe I tightened something too much, or built the strut assembly back incorrectly.
I'm going to take off the struts this weekend probably and give it an inspection. Any ideas or thoughts from you guys would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Thanks!
Danny
