Call the dealer, run the vin. They *should* tell you if there's an outstanding recall...

There are some websites that will do the same I think. Anyone else can chime in with that info.

Brian, you want that euro rack?

I think I'm gonna have to have that Heater Core recall done. I'm 99% sure that's my problem. I have had fluid in the passenger area of my car, but I just figurted it was a leak or something. Then I was asking a tech at work about the coolant leak I was having. He suggested that, so I'm gonna call the local dealer and get this fixed. I'll let ya know how it works out.

Recalls are issued by the government for cars in their own country. They are not open ended to all cars around the world unless BMW does it voluntarily.

And as for the recall itself, it's bullshit. Back in the days some stupid woman sued BMW because she got hot coolant sprayed on her leg when the heater core blew up. She blamed it on the car, I blame it on her driving it with the temperature in the red zone. It's the same like the woman that spilled coffee on herself and sued McDonalds. You be the judge.

Not convinced? Then why are all E30s in the rest of the world, and other BMWs in the US and rest of the world that all use the same style of heater setup not affected by this 'problem?'

Let's see what you'd say if you got hot coolant poured all over your legs on the highway because of an admitted factory defect.

Better yet, would you turn down the "factory recall" on that nice M3 of yours for the oil starvation problem if given the opportunity, just because other people haven't taken advantage of it or had trouble with it?

            Snob.

Its not an admitted defect, its a government mandated recall in this country only. If all the E30s in the rest of the world with the exact same heater are ok, then what is the deal here? Think logcially.
The point is, if you have a brain and are smart enough to not drive the car while it's overheating, your heater core will be fine.

And no, I don't have the recall on that nice M3 of mine. In fact, I removed the stupid bypass valve. Heater failures on E30s now are going to be due to age more than anything else at this point.

Read much? I was referring to the notorious oil starvation your M3 has trouble with. Recalls are recalls, you take advantage of them when they're offered. It doesn't make you less of a man to get one done.

And as for "the rest of the world" not having this problem, you'll take a look at the diving boards this country mandated our cars to have until the redesign in 89, that "the rest of the world" felt was unnecessary. Not to mention my car is a grey market or import, meaning technically I'm driving a car that was built for German roads...and I had the heater core fail on me...

Bottom line: the US is way more strict on safety guidelines and mandates than other countries. Hence, the recall that could potentially save lives on a defective heater core design.
