I installed one, very easy, just remove the freeze plug and hammer in the heater element (a bit fiddly to get in but not hard), takes only a few min.

Very cold climates, it heats up the block to get it warmed up faster.

It makes cold starts easier as well.

heats up the coolant so its warm and nice when u start the car, very good for the engine when u dont crank it when it -32C outside :p

your oil filter mounts differently than mine.

You have an m42... your oil filter won't come close to getting in the way.

In that case, you can rotate the oil filter 180 degrees, or just plug the block heater into another freeze plug hole.

What do you need a block heater for in texas?

well the ones with power steering has an adapter on the oilfilter so the filter is 90 degrees in another direction. I don't have power steering on my car

all of my e30s had one, except the black one because it's orignally from the PNW.

I am doing a oil heater that goes into the oil pan and will hopefully get the oil up to about 140 or so before I start the car.
