    325i tranny in my 325ix?

I found a 325i 5spd tranny from a 1989 and Im ready to buy it. I was told it would fit in the 5spd 325ix I have but I want to make sure. Pls someone answer me I need to know by today afternoon thats why I put it in this section where it would get more hits.

So is the 325ix transmission the same as one from a 325i? Or are they different?

    Thank you,
    Seb

    no

there will be no way to mount the transfer case to the transmission. the driveshafts are different. the tranny mounts are different. the shift linkage is different.. need I go on?

somebody has used an ix tranny in a 325i, but he didn't have a transfer case to worry about and he used a flex disk from another car to make the 325i driveshaft work with the ix tranny. it won't worth the other way around though..

the eurodepot has 5 speeds from time to time for the ix. are you doing an auto to manual swap?

nah my car is already a 5spd, but for as long as ive had it the tranny has been in really shitty condtion. 1st and 2nd grind all the time, and 3rd grinds often. i was finally gonna get around to replacing the transmission because i found a good condition "i" one for sale cheap. it will be hard to find an "ix" one for a reasonable price, i guess ill have to keep driving it this way. its more of a comfort thing, it hasnt gotten any worse in over two years.. i just have to jam it into first n second.

you can always have it rebuilt. might be a better idea than buying a sketchy used tranny.. same amount of labor to take it out and put it in anyway.

Rebuilding it sounds like a much better idea. You have the guarantee of a near-perfect transmission, which is always nice. My second gear is really ansy lately, oh well, 430,000kms will wear the synchros a bit.

              Keep it slideways!!
