    Steering play

well lately I've noticed that my steering wheel has been getting a lot of play, I can move turn it left to right without the car actually turning. it's maybe only a few degrees of turning before it actually turns, any ideas on how to fix this, and what's wrong with it? thanks

Have you inspected your tierods lately? Is your rack going bad?

Check the tie rods, 90% chance that's what is causing it.

There's a small rubber coupling between the steering column and the rack. Look underneath while a friend see-saws the wheel back and forth and see if that's the culprit. I've seen many a car have this coupling wear out and cause those symptoms.

it's not the tie rods I've recently replaced those. I'll check the rubber couplings. Anything else?

Well my steering rack does the same thing. A few degrees of play, and a quiet clunk when the steering wheel actually connects to the tires.
Is there any way to fix this coupling...can I replace it?

                    Go torque them back down.

                    Trust me.

i didn't read the recently replaced part of that id agree check those and the nut that holds the adjustment. even if it is the rubber just to make sure its good and tight.
