Now this is a question I felt like would help any newbie coming to this site. Alot of people automatically think of the exhaust and wahtnot but what are in fact the best modifications (strictly speed wise, suspension is excluded). From my understanding a Conforti chip in combination with a m30 afm with 19lb injectors and an exhaust you looking at extracting almost all the usable power from the m20. Add a shortshifter for soem crisper throws and to fix up the shifter slop and I cant see any otehr value in doing other things. Is there anything else thats cheap and nets big gains on the dyno?

Don't bother on the M30 AFM without something to properly tune it with. You'd need to bump up to a higher rate AFPR as well.
For bolt on performance, a chip is about it. Everything else is just for noise and looks.
Best performance mod for the money is still a drivers school.

I got 200 HP (160RWHP on a Dynapack) with a chip/intake/exhaust and a solid understanding of engines with my M20.

19# injectors give almost 0 increase in performance without other mods - mostly, my gas mileage increased and my engine runs smoother. I don't know yet what effect the combination of injectors and big6 afm is, but I assume the gains are equally small. however I picked both parts up cheap and am willing to experiment a bit.
I seriously doubt a claim of 200hp with only a chip/intake/exhaust, that's stroker territory right there. I'd estimate my crank horsepower with my chip/exhaust/injectors to be maybe 5-7hp peak above stock, too bad my car is AWD because I'll probably never have a chance to dyno it and find out for sure. On the other hand, even with the auto, the engine is torquey and pulls strongly all the way to the redline :)
For serious power increases, you need a lot more than bolt ons - head work, strokers, aftermarket engine management and ditching the AFM would realize much larger gains.

I have my dyno sheets posted.....

ok so its decided that he has 187 with a chip exhaust and intake, dyno tested and mother approved those look like good numbers for those few mods. A 20 hp increase is nothing to complain about I would say. Lets keep the topic rollin, Ive heard that a flywheel has a bid effect on the way a car behaves? Is it worth the dough or is jsut mainly hype and should be left for only the serious racers?

No you moron without a car or a brain.
It's 160 rwhp x 1.23 (correction factor for dynapacks) other dynos use 1.22 or 1.21 = this equals 197 crank hp.
These numbers are from the mouth of the guy that has been dynoing cars for over a decade now.
You jackass little pricks said it 200 hp can't be done on an M20 over 3 yeras ago on DTM.
I not only shut all the little "Internet mechanic" pricks out there... but I posted the results in color for all to see.
The numbers don't lie.

Correction is BULLSHIT! You have 159rwhp. No more, no less. Any other argument is just plain BS! Please explain why my bone stock 325i dynoed at 147rwhp. Does it mean that is has 180 at the flywheel? I doubt it. More likely is that the driveline loss is probably about 12/13% not nearly 20%.

You CAN NOT get 200 hp from an M20 with intake, chip, and exhaust. If that were true, two-thirds of the members on this board would have more hp than the guys with stroked M20's.

funny how every time he says how much HP he has it changes.. first it was 200, then 197, and in the thread he links to he says 189...
seriously, I have all the same mods as you, except an intake (which is a 0% gain, the only reason to go cone intake is for sound or to ditch the AFM), plus 19# injectors, and there's no way in hell that I have 200 crank horsepower.
