iirc, you want a higher temp thermostat so that it opens later and it keeps the engine up at optimal temperature.

an engine running too cold is no bueno either.

You shouldn't ever have to change your thermostat temp. The engine is designed to run at a certain temperature. Keep it there, there's no need to switch it out based on weather.

this is what i meant to say when i said "higher temp." i mean "higher than the low temp thermostats people put in in their cars.

I'm actually about to switch my thermo to the normal temp for winter.

Just go to bavauto and get the OEM spec thermo.
Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
            Mark: "You never will."

Other than on a race car, there is no reason to run a lower temperature thermostat. Run the stock 80C thermostat year round.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
