with UNIChip, u can't tune it urself cos the tuning software is only provided to the dealer/tuner...

as for SMT6, u can download the software and tune as u like...

    both works the same...

Calvin Tan is having a SMT5 and running with MAF

Why not take that money and buy a megasquirt? Later when you decide to do the work you can set up ignition control for it (i just did this)

Might as well go stand alone and get full control of the motor. Megasquirt has a built in MAP sensor.

As for the TPS, you can modify the stock one so a mustang TPS fits ontop of it.. this way they will both work. Without the stock TPS installed, you will get some seriously messed up timing.

From what I understand the Siemans unit has the closest voltage curve to the AFM, making tuning easier.

Because megasquirt sucks IMO, and I do not want it.

This thread isnt about Megasquirt, SMT6, etc.

lol, i wish Chris would just post, he has all the answers I desire.

Does anyone have a M52 Siemens MAF kicking around? eBay yielded nothing, and the guys I know that would normally have one don't.

I used to have one I picked up cheap, but I sold it because it wasn't cosmeticly perfect.

AFAIK yes they are both the same. Quick ETK part # check would make sure.

Yea, don't know why I didn't just check to begin with. They have the same part number and I may have access to an s52 hfm for like $25. Interested? I'll get back to you.

Yes, definately. Lemme know, as I would need it pretty much ASAP.

How does MS suck? You can adjust the rev limit, add traction control based on rpm speed, NOS control, idle control, etc etc etc.

Take a look at the MSnS Extra code - it is PACKED full of amazing features. You can use it without spark, but why not just add ignition control?

You also will not need a MAF as the MAP sensor is in the unit - which I might add is less restrictive than the probe inside the MAF. There are some base maps that can get you running right away and it is easy to wire up.

I do not want megasquirt, nor would I have the time to fuck with it if I did. I'm moving 2,300 miles away in less then 2weeks. I need the car to be tipity top for the roadtrip.

I've heard nothing but nightmares about getting megasquirt tuned properly. Ask matt, he has it on his turbo 2.8 and said to me that he had it running decent for maybe a day.

Thanks anyways Chris, but I picked up a M52 HFM from my buddy Funk complete with a harness clipping so I can make my "plug and play" harness adapter.

It's a halfass setup running mostly old GM crap retrofitted for newer cars. I've yet to see it ever tuned properly, either on the internet or in real life. It's not cheap to get all the parts, and when you factor in the time it takes to make it actually run even halfway decent, you'd be way ahead of the game if you went with a real solution such as an SMT6 or Unichip.

                            Megasquirt is shit.

Jordan, for now, grab yourself a stock chip and a stock working M20 AFM. Don't even take the time trying to fuck with an aftermarket setup if you have a long drive. When you get down to texas, then you can start playing with the motor.

I have an SMT6 and I also have MegaSquirt - sorry... MegaSquirt kicks ass.. especially with the 16x16 or 32x32 fuel code.

There are a lot of VERY fast cars running megasquirt... including mine. Buy my SMT6 - $200 :D

I am currently running a stock 173 ecu/ chip, and a M30 AFM. M30 AFM runs just as well as the m20, as it should. Trottle response is alot quicker then the m20 AFM.

My main problem is the pinging I have. Getting the car tuned with remedy this problem.

The engine runs fantastic right now, aside from the pinging. I'm not driving 2300+ miles, mostly through desert with it like that. it needs to be tuned.

Unichips main R&D facility is right here in Portland, and the car would be dyno tuned on their dyno in house. Pretty hard to beat that.
