    Oil in air intake boot

i was inspecting the air intake boot for cracks when i found oil in it. what seems odder is that somehow, the oil came from the idle air stabilizer and burst the hose running from it to the air intake boot. what could cause that to happen? i noticed that the burst hose had no circlamp on it. could the lack of pressure on that end have caused this? is my engine kaput?

just sitting there, deeper in the back, though thats probly due more to how i removed the air filter assembly. the outside of the air intake boot is covered in oil from where the hose burst. any idea what could have caused this?

Does anyone know the answer to this? Although a small amount of oil in the boot is "acceptable, it still isnt supposed to be there. Is there an EGR valve on these?

The answer is that there are no vent valves on these cars, the crank case vent is a straight open hose to the intake, so it tends to chuck some oil up there. In the case of the 84 318, the intake boot is almost a V shape as the throttle body points down on those cars, so it has a nice little spot to collect over time in the bottom of that V.

im not sure if it has the valve cover vent like the M42's but i was getting oil in through that, there is a rubber/plasticy cover that bolts into the top of the valve cover and its got a long runner to vent air but keep oil out, the seal was gone on that, so i cleaned it up and put some scilicon on it. havn't had a problem since.

As stated in my post, its a direct pipe on his car. No oil/vapor seperator like your car.
