    325e No spark or fuel

I am going to be buying a 325e for $500. It has 158k actual miles but will not start. The car was parked by the previous owner and was running at the time. However, when she went to start it 1 month later it would not start up at all.

The bmw will crank over just fine. However I disconnected a couple fuel lines and no fuel ran out when I cranked it over. I tried sparking starting fluid through the throttle body before and during cranking and no dice. I checked for spark at the end of the plug wires and nothing while jumping and cranking. I got a reading from the coils terminals of ~24.5 volts while the key was turned to the on position. The fuses seemed to be good besides #20 which I believe is for ac/heat. The secondary fuel pump SEEMS to be dead because there is no humming when you turn the key to the on position or while cranking.

    Any advice would be great.

    This will most likely be:

No timing data to the DME (bad CPS)
No power to the DME (bad main relay or wiring fault)
    Bad DME
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Where can I find the CPS sensor and how hard is it to replace?

How expensive are DME's? Could I only use a DME from a 325e?

      thanks.

On this car the CPS (and cylinder ID sensor) are mounted in the bell housing. Replacement of the CPS is pretty easy. But start by making sure that the DME is getting power and that the main relay is good.

A used DME generally costs no more than $50 and you must one meant for an M20B27 (ETA) engine.

How can I check to see if the DME is getting power? Also, which relay is the main one? Is it one of the 3 under that little black box near the air box?

Just to be sure (and I'm not trying to be an ass) have you verified that it has enough gas in the tank? You wouldn't be the first person to start working on a car only to find out that there wasn't any gas.

Well the gauge reads over a half tank, However I havent tried draining the tank.

so how do you test if the DME is getting power?

With a meter or test light at the DME pins.

I cleaned off the CPS sensor and that didn't seem to do the trick. I guess it might just be bad.
