    Help! Swollen Coolant hoses

I have a problem, I recently changed the thermostat on my 1985 318 (m10) and did a coolant flush. I have no overheating issues now but after driving, when i look at my coolant hoses i notice that both hoses that connect to the thermostat are swollen. The one going to the water pump (12) looks like a water balloon. The hoses in question are numbers 10 and 12, hoses number 11 and 13 seem normal.

I plan on replacing these two hoses.

If I open the radiator cap, the swelling immediately goes down, what is causing this problem, is it air in the system that still needs to be bled? It does not appear that I am loosing coolant, and I do not see oil/coolant on my oil dipstick.

    Thoughts?

How old are the hoses? Over time they become soft and need to be replaced as maintenance.

well i just recently got the car and was told they are all new, however the two that are swelling seem a bit soft, especially the one swelling the most (12) i will be replacing them this weekend. I was just wondering what the cause of this may be

You replaced the tstat but left the old hoses alone?? I would replace all the hoses, all the stuff for m10 is cheap, plus you'll save yourself trouble of one of them failing.... also inspect that metal tube going from the water pump to the firewall, they rust through and leak as well.

How old is your radiator cap? It could be over pressurizing the system if you're sure that the hoses are new.

can the radiator cap be too tight?

well the reason i got a new one was because the old one wasn't threading properly. I will see if i still have the old one though and give it a shot

It shouldn't make any difference on the cap, should it? It just sounds to me like those hoses weren't replaced.
