I know pushing the 1000 and 1 buttons together displays the amount of fuel remaining in the tank, but is there any way to make this display in gallons? Pressing the changeover contact doesn't do anything... just curious.

Whoa, never heard of this. That's all I have to do, push the 1000 and 1 buttons together and it'll tell me how many liters of gas I have left?

Yeah, mine never reads below 6 liters, but the range is surprisingly accurate... ran it down to 2 miles the other day to get a bunch of crap gas out of my tank.

If you think that stuff doesn't get picked up anyway regardless of the amount of gas in the tank, you are mistaken. The pickup is in the bottom of the tank and that stuff gets stirred up every time you drive with anything but a completely full tank, especially if you drive hard. Maybe more of concern is the fact that the fuel pump gets hot and receives no external cooling from the gasoline when the tank is that low.
Both my computers act different when they get down that low. On one car the light comes on when I get down to about 40 miles left and goes down to 10 when it runs out of gas. On the other car it gets down to 22 miles when the light comes on and then it climbs up to about 35-40 miles and counts down to 10. At that point it blanks out with the car still running. Did this only once and went about a half mile to the gas station and filled up so I don't know how much gas was really in the tank but I think that was close enough.

Well, as far as the hot pump issue goes I'm not so sure that isn't a myth as well. I've heard it repeated many times but have driven with the tank near empty just as many times with no problems so I don't know how true that really is either.
