    Ebay Chip and Cams?

I can't seem to find a answer for my question. I have an Ebay chip for the M42 and would like some vac performance cams 269/269.

Do I need to re-install my OEM chip, or get a custom chip, or should I be able to keep the ebay chip?

    Cheers Guys.

That ebay chip will probably work, but you are going to want to get either a custom tune our a better chip to get the most out of them.

Aren't eBay chips just garbage? All it does (IMO) is advance timing and adds fuel up top.

I would never blindly throw a chip into the ECU to change how it runs without any type of gauges to be able to monitor what is going on.

Ebay chips are pretty bad, yeah. Some are better than others though.I had one from a company called pro formance that was in my car when I got it, and it was far better than that stock chip, but it wasn't optimized at all.

xg_motorsports chip turned my eta into a beast. Not sure how they will work with 318 but he makes one for them. He will send instructions and guarantees them.

Yeh mine is a pro performance I did a bit of resurch before buying, unfortunatly I had little money at the time so that was my only option.

Anyways, I realise that for optimal performance a custom tune is needed, I have been recommended the W.A.R chip which is ok but annoying that you can't tune on the fly.

Anyone have one of these and do you know if there would be a tune for what I want already? Obviousy with a bit of tuning required by me.

Ultimatly once I get a new DD car I will be installing MS on this one so what ever I get wont me be lasting me to long.

Alotta the E30 chips on fleabay are also ripoffs of real chips like MarkD and whatnot. The older E30 chips are easier to copy than E36 chips.

No, they aren't. Any PROM chip can be read and copied just the same. I can read ANY PROM chip and make a copy, even burn them on a 512 chip (if it's a 256 system) and just use the correct offset so the information is the correct place. Almost all of the aftermarket chip files have been posted somewhere on the internet, I have copies of several on my laptop ;)

Have any TRM copies? I was under the impression they were able to encrypt theirs somehow.

                    WTF Dave?

We work hard on our chips. So does Mark D and so do most of the other legit tuners. Why would you guys rip us off like that?

Silly matt. Ive been you guys' slave for years now ;)

Exactly! Like I said, I look at the files, but have my own way of doing things, just like other tuners.

Just nice to compare notes sometimes, so I will peak at them.

Yes, they are encrypted in a way, but only to keep guys with chip readers from "easily" reading them, just like the OEM stuff, it can be hacked.

EDIT: We put cars on the dyno, and street tune them just like anyone else, lots or R&D goes into them, and in fact I don't even really feel comfortable selling chips on the boards. Local tuning FTW!
