I tried doing one for about an hour and after making a ton of tiny chips on the edge of the lens i gave up. I think i heated it up in the oven 3 different times at 350. first for about 8 mins, then twelve, then 20. I tried cut and peeled the seal away with a knife but the lens goes over a lip and I could only cut the outer edge of the seal. I have no confidence that I can finish removing the lens without breaking it and I will probably never attempt to remove an ellipsoid lens again.

This was my method for the drivers side low-beam (which was a much better method then what I did for the passenger side).
Pre-heat the oven to 350, in the mean time,
Get your heat gun, set it on 1000*F setting. Do small portions around the edges of the lens. Get an xacto knife and guide it around between the lens and the plastic piece so that the lens breaks away from that area. Then get it hot again, and get the thickest feeler gauge and get it between the plastic base and the lens, so you can try to break the sealant away from there.
Put it in the oven at 350* for 8 minutes. Then get your feeler gauge and break away the final pieces of sealant between the base of the plastic and the base of the lens. Get it inside between the base of the plastic and the lens and slowly start to try it up...Although the feeler gauge will flex, if you don't see the lens starting to rise you should probably reheat it again...
It took 15 minutes, no cracks or chips in the lens, and the sealant came off relatively even all around.Originally posted by TSI♫ Rust flecks are falling on my head...♫OEM+

I would suspect the lenses were off at some point and whatever adhesive was being used wasn't strong enough or wasn't prepped properly..lol.
that sealant they use from the factory is pretty tough and even after being in the oven for 10min they still need a delicate hand to remove without breaking the glass..sigpic
