    Getting smogged on Friday

After purchasing the car a year ago and doing all maintenance including a tranny swap, took it out on the road tonight...f'n sweet! Noticed that there is a whining in 5th gear. Initial concern was I got a bad tranny as it reminding me of the same noise when I lost a diff in my last car. Truth be told, this is only the second time I've been able to drive the car since I purchased it. Is it possible the oil in the tranny is low as I remember only being able to pump about 1.5 qts into it, is the whining somewhat normal or should this be a concern?

Second question, my "Inspection" light is on, I know this can be reset but I do not have the tool to do so. Will this fail the visual portion of the smog. Is there a way to reset this without having the gizmo?

getrags only take bout 1.5 qts as it is. have you changed the tranny and diff fluids??

might help with the minor noise.

Inspection light wont matter for smog. you can jump the pins to clear it, I just cant remember which ones

Yes...both have been changed with Redline MT-90 and 75w. I should also mention that all carpet and sound deadning has been removed so I hear everything but there was definitely a higher pitched tone after shifting into 5th.

So car "itself" passed smog but failed because the check engine light did not light up on dash upon turning key to ACC...culprit...bad bulb. Switched out and retest and cert in hand. The BS part about it was the guy new first go around that it would not pass before he even ran it, tested it anyway and then charged me another $40 for the retest. All in all don't really care since I'm good to go but thought I'd throw it out there for those that are getting ready to get smogged as just another thing to look into.
