Torx on E30.

Are there any torx bits on these cars? Im buying tools today or tomorrow, and Im wondering if I need torx drivers also.

Im buying tools mainly to work on my little honda (which is all hex and phillips), and my soon to be E30. If there are, what sizes are they?

Yes some fastners are.

You will need male bits and female sockets.

The front bumper requires a T-55 torx

There's a handful of torx fasteners.

Security torx:
Airbag impact sensors

Internal torx:
Airbag to steering wheel
Sunroof to sunroof rails
Bumper bolts (T-55 OR hex 10mm, check first)

External torx:
Transmission bellhousing bolts

So not that many encountered unless you are swapping engine or bumpers.

Even then, I was able to use a simple 6-point socket to get the male torx head bolts out of the bell housing. Would have been nice to have the proper tool though.

If I'm not mistaken, E30's PRODUCED in 1988+ M20's came with Torx head bolts. My 88 E30 that was produced in late 1987 did not.

You most likely wont need them. If you do, they will be the ones FredK said.

And there are some on the fenders where they attach to the valance.

You need a T-50 torx to get the camshaft sprocket off. The only one I've encountered as far as I remember.

I find I need them. Cant recall what for exactly but Ive used them for sure. Hex and torx.

I would recommend having them in your tool set regardless. You never know when you might come across them and you don't want to play around trying to remove them with a hex socket hammered over the head or a small flat-blade screwdriver into a female torx head.

I'm thinking E10, E12, and E14. 4 E14's, 2 starter bolts are E12's, and some BMW transmissions have random E10's scattered around. Can't remember if the E30 does for sure or not without looking.
