Using Euro H1 high beams w/ Hella H4 lows on sealed beam car

Is it possible? My car came with sealed beams, and I upgraded to Hella H4 lows no problem. Now I want to add the H1 highs from a set of euro ellipsoids. Will it work properly? Will I have to rewire (not a problem for me)?

just the plugs, having the H4 low solves anything. Most of the problems invoved making the H1 low work properly.

Cool, thanks Ryan. I was just concerned if I wouldn't be able to flash the highs anymore or if the lows would shut off or something.

        Yes, you can do it!

My car was like that, it takes some minor wiring to make the low's come on with the highs, the problem is the sealed beams have a duel filament in the low, so when you hit the high, it shuts, off the low beam and kicks on the high in the low.

If you just jump the low to high, when you kick on the high, it will become a self sustaining circuit and not shut off the high beams until you shut off the lights.

There are a few ways around this, I have a wiring diagram to add a relay to kick the low on/off. I just came up with a really simple way around it to, send me a email for the diagram.

Nah, I think he is talking about just installing the highs and keeping the lows as the dual filament H4s. Correct me if I am wrong.

That is correct. So I should have no problems.

You can install the Hella H1 high beam replacement for the sealed beams, but you will have a really hard time fitting the Ellipsoid E code light high beam in there, the bucket id different.

Well crap, I am pretty sure they are E-codes. I guess I will try to butcher it and get it to fit.

ohhhh, good catch. I missed the part about the ellipsoid lense instead of the Hella H1 I guess.

Yeah man, its gonna be a bitch to fabricate up a mount of the e codes because the sealed beam setup used those funky springs on one side and a screw on the other (if I remember). The ellips use those adjustment screws and an eccentric mount on the opposite side to adjust with.

hey DW, can i ask how you like the H4's? do they throw much more light out than the stock ones? i'm thinking about changing my stock lowbeams out on my 87 as i'm getting sick of not being able to see much on the dark roads around here. thanks.

Bah, is it really going to be hard to mount them?

I like the H4's, they aren't great, but a good deal if you are on a budget.

I just upgraded to H4 lows. I also have the Osram Silverstar bulbs. They kick ass! WAY better than stock, especially with the Osrams.
