Did any of the E34's come with VANOS? If so i want one.
Brian
P.S. Bryson, keep me updated on your swap, ill definately need some info.
I'm assuming the e34s got the vanos update when the e36s got it, but mine's a '91, so it's non-vanos, plus this keeps everything in my car '91 vintage :)
Will do, Brian
Close. The E34 got the M50 non-vanos in 91, a year before the E36. It also got the vanos a year ahead, in 92, as opposed to the E36 in 93.
Has anyone put an M50 in a E30 sedan? All I see is coupes with them. When it comes to the driveshaft issue since it's a sedan do you need to go custom or can you just reuse the E30 drive shaft like some do with the Getrag?
My car is an automatic. Will a E30 automatic mate up to a M50? I've been wanting a manual for awhile anyway. I guess I could convert it or just get a coupe manual.

85 325e M50 and auto to manual transmission conversion...
I hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but is the m50 out of an e34 just the same to swap in an e30 as the e36 m50. From the ETK, it looks like its pretty much the same physically, but what about the wiring? It seems like the e34 m50 would be a good choice since you'd already have the oil pan.
DONT quote me on this BUT i think someone said its not long enough to put the ECU in the glove box like normal. Not 100% on that though. SOmeone will chime in though
I think Brian's right, the ECU is in the engine compartment of an e34. Buuut, since you're cutting into the wiring harness anyway, it'll be easy to extend. Problem solved :)
