Found the problem with the Check engine light.

Turns out the repair shop who did the clutch job, failed to re-connect the o2 sensor which caused the light to come on. After re-connecting the sensor and driving it a few times the car runs noticeably smoother and the light has since switched itself off.

Not very impressed with the shop that did the work, considering they charged me a cool 1g to do the job and this is the second problem I'm finding with their work (the first problem was an exhaust leak from worn out rear bolts I'm sure they could have checked this before giving me the car back). Not sure if I'm going to go with them again and may start looking for a new shop pretty soon for future repairs I can't/don't wanna bother with (i.e. rear wheel bearings).
