Excessive valve clearance causes impact loading of the rocker and that repetitive stress leads to failure.
My last valve adjustment was probably 500 miles ago.

Not doing valve adjustments will actually wear em hard enough to break eh, interesting.

should have put in a disclaimer: Im no m20 expert

        Discovery?
I kind of knew about this "problem" but I'm not sure if it escalated to this.

That's my distributor cap. My rotors been rubbing on it, (rubbing equally I might say, it's a pretty darn even circle).
I don't know why it's rubbing, maybe I'm missing a spacer or washers or something?

        Perhaps this could be it?

EDIT: Looking at the rotor, It says made in Italy and no cute roundel BMW puts on every single one of their parts. I'm guessing the previous owner (being the dumbass that he is) switched it out and put an incorrect rotor in.

Is there spark when cranking the engine? If you have spark, what is the rail fuel pressure while cranking?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I took out one individual wire and attached a spark plug i had laying around to it and tested each wire with the spark plug to see if it had spark. 1-4 sparked great. My battery was kind of dying, so I'm not sure if that influenced the spark of #5 but it seemed awfully weak. My battery died at cylinder 6 so I didn't get a chance to test it. The funny thing is, when I took the wire out of cylinder 1 and cranked the engine over, the engine was firing exactly as if I still had the wire in cylinder 1... Not sure what that means, injectors most likely I presume.

              HOWEVER,
I do remember when I was driving it the hours before it broke down on me, on 1st gear when I went WOT, it kinda "bogged" at 3k-4k, then it finally recieved power at the higher RPM's. this was before all the awkward vibrations the engine made. My engine never bogged before so I dont know what that meant.

Only time will tell I guess, I'm moving awfully slow at inspecting everything since the weather is horrendous and will only get worse.

If you have spark, the next thing to look at will be the fuel system and then the injectors. Start by running the static fuel system tests in the Bentley manual.

Ran every fuel test I could besides the actual fuel pressure gauge test.
Fuel pump works, and it pumps well coming out of the FPR.

The thing is, I dont feel the injectors working at all. No vibration or clicking, and its not just one of them, its all of them.

C191 connector looks good, not corroded. I cleaned them out with CRC cleaner, though I could probably do a better job, the connector still looked good.

I'm totally stumped... I've probably read "Fuel System" chapter of the Bentley 4 times already.

I have an 88 325is, late tailights and front and rear valances, but still diving boards. I think the build date is 12/87. I tried a stomp test, nothing happened, which points to either a bad TPS or I have the wrong Motronic..

Where can I buy like, a super tiny pipe cleaner so I can get inside the female connectors to clean them out?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but both my 1st and 2nd cylinder injectors (the only ones I tested) are reading, ZERO ohms.
                      They also look like shit

But yeah, In recent days i've discovered that I'm not getting power to main relay points 86 and 30, nor am I getting power to the injector connector.
spark is there, fuel is there up to the fuel rails.

use 12v to try to switch the injectors. if they don't click... well. yeah. it does sound like they're shorted. I've never seen injectors read full closed loop.

                          Compression test:
I dont know how this could have happened. I've been running 3000+ miles on my cracked head, so I guess it finally gave way and that's why its not starting?
The results from cylinder 1-6 are:
                          50
                          65
                          70
                          70
                          90
                          85psi

Granted, this is on a cold cold cold engine that hasn't been started in 7 days in 28* weather.
Could this be it? Or maybe my compression was always like this? this is frustrating..

                            ok im losing it here

                            I changed out the injectors...twice
I cleaned every possible connection on the engine minus the C191 because it seems impossible to disconnect it
                            I'm getting fuel
I changed out the distributor and rotor
                            Im getting spark
My compression tests are in post above me..but I don't see why that would stop my engine from at least firing? none of my cylinders are firing
                            Rockers are fine..
im getting power to main relay
                            fuel pump works
                            CPS reads to ohm spec

Shit what the fuck......... I remember when my car was running and it was sputtering like in the video my check engine light turned on

On top of this I need a new breather tube from the valve cover, the cold litterally snapped it in half.
Could it be possible my timing belt jumped a tooth or something? This is extremely aggravating.
                            help please!

I know this thread isn't very uh..active, but I guess it'll be good if someone else has the same problem..

                                Discovery again..
Since my spark plugs are new, they must have some sort of coloring to them, right? I remember about 2 days ago my engine was trying to firing on some cylinders. Today, I checked the plugs to see which were new and which were old. To my SURPRISE, plugs 2,4, and 6 showed signs of ignition, while 1,3, and 5 were brand new!!
I know the E30 injectors are seperated into 2 banks, but I tested the injector connection and im getting voltage, and I changed out the injectors twice.

What could this possibly mean? I'm getting voltage to all injectors connectors according to the multimeter, and im getting spark to all plugs, but cylinders 1,3,5 are not igniting, while the other ones are.

This is kind of bittersweet because I finally feel one step closer to getting this thing going..
