motor hesitates at highway speed after filling with coolant

Had a major mishap this weekend replacing the timing belt (long story), and I had to get the radiator out of the way... well after I put everything together last night, filled the coolant bled the air, blah blah... so here's what it's doing...

As I was bleeding the air through the 8mm bleeder, the car would overheat slightly... I turned the car off, and attempted to start it 15 minutes later, and it wouln't start. It would crank fine but wouldn't start. The coolean temp gauge was still a little high, so after I stared at it for another 10 minutes trying to figure out what's going on, i tried again, and it fired right up as if nothing happened.

Took off, car runs awesome, no overheating, except, as I got going at highway speeds, the car started sputtering... it would loose all power for a fraction of a second, then come back alive. The check engine light flickers on as well when this happens.

So, given that I may still have air bubbles in the cooling system, had replaced the timing belt, as well as removing and re-installing everything between the radiator and the front of the motor, what is wrong with the damn thing? please help...

oh, one more thing... the maf sensor may be faulty after I messed with it... Ok, I admit... you're reading this post thinking "what an idiot... he messed up the maf sensor, fixed it; attempted to replaced the timing belt, messed that up pretty bad, fixed it; put the thing back together, filled the coolant, car runs fine, but it still has bubbles in it..." yeah, this past weeked was a nightmare... everything that could go wrong, did go wrong, and I have myself to blame... but, to my relief, the motor runs really smooth, short of this last problem, which i think is minor... I just bought the car, beautiful calypso red '90 325i, with 75k miles, immaculate interior and exterior... my mom told me red is bad luck.. lol.

    E30s don't have maf sensors..

are you sure your timing belt isn't off a tooth?

the airbox has a air measuring mechanical sensor device, I suppose. I assume it was the maf sensor, my bad. it has a flap that opens/closes with air flow, and a potentiometer-type sensor on top of it. that's the piece I was talking about. the timing is perfect, tripple checked by myself, and my friend who is a master mechanic. The O|T lines up and the cam gear lines up.

anyway, i just drove about 10 mile to my friend's house for the pistons game.. it ran perfect.

yeah, it's called an AFM. completely different from a MAF sensor. ;)

Would the car run, if the timing was off by one tooth? I was just driving it, it stalled, and wouldn't start for 5 minutes. It wasn't even hot, barely warm

I just double checked the timing... it is perfect... i checked and re-seated all connectors. the o2 sensor wire was not tight... car runs really-really smooth, has good power.. I'll have to drive it more today and see if it still happens. If it does, I assume it's a fuel delivery problem... Anything else I should check into... the car has 76k miles

Sounds like coolant in the cylinder, check for white smoke out the tailpipe.

hm, no white smoke, thankfully. it's been running great for the past 3 days. I probably drove 200 miles with no problems.

it wasn't the O2 sensor that was loose, it was the injector harness, also some coolant temp sensors. I'm pretty sure that was it.
