How cold should an E30s A/C be?

I just paid a guy $60(including the R12 to recharge) on the side to evacuate and recharge my system. He also replaced a hose that had sprung a leak (the hose was $40 new - I bought myself). Anyway, it is cool now, but definitely not cold.

Who has had their system properly charged and how cold SHOULD it be? I am wondering if he did a substandard job, or if this is just the best that an E30s system can put out. Or is my compressor in need of being replaced.

    TIA.

The AC in our E28 works, it's cool but not cold unlike our 740i

What would cause it NOT to be that cold? Did he not put enough freon in? Is the compressor bad?

I too would like to know the answer to this question. I still get back sweat with the ac on. It actually feels cooler if I roll the windows down with the ac on.

Thing is, I don't want to throw money at it blindly, but if the system is capable of better cooling, then I want to get it there.

mine blows very cold, but not so much if you're just sitting in traffic. on the freeway though it will chill my watch down to where I have to take it off because it freezes my wrist.

Something is definitely not right then. Thanks for the input.

Hard to diagnose without seeing pressures.
Did he replace the drier? Its good practice to replace it when opening the system.
Also a long time under vacuum helps. Gets all the moisture out of the system.
The correct charge weight is also important.

Make sure the condenser is clean and the fans are in good condition.

Haha. I did that today as well. Fucking 94 degrees in NE Ohio. WTF?

I just got mine fixed, something electrical was wrong, cost me $90 to diagnose and fix.

It blows really cold, even sitting in traffic in the 85 degree + weather we've been having.

Plus I found out the PO converted to R134a, pretty much made my afternoon.

Is there any really easy to way to tell if it's still R12 or R134a? No idea, PO never mentioned it. he said the compressor didn't even work at all, but it turns on fine and pumps out air when switched on. Just not cold air.
