Engine Problem - Sputter

Not sure exactly how to explain this, but I'll give it a shot.

I've only observed this happening after the car warms up, but not sure if that's something notable yet to this problem.

The only way to explain this, in my own words, is that when I apply the throttle (not just cruising and keeping constant speed) the car accellerates a little slower than it should and has a slight "sputter" to it...

It's like if every other ignition didn't happen.

Originally I thought it was a TPS problem, but now I'm thinking AFM, Fuel Pump, or ECU (car's been kept up pretty well, so I don't think it's the ECU).

Any thoughts?

Update: It's when cold too. Makes no matter if the car's warmed up or not. I think it's just pronounced after I've driven for a few miles.

Simple explination: Car sputters, but runs, when not idling.

Im having this same issue right now, I think its my ignition coil. I check them and one of them doesnt look as good as the others so Im gonna try Replacing it.

It wasnt the ignition coil :(

Sounds ignition related to me. Check you plugs, cap and rotor. A worn out rotor can cause all kinds of odd misfires.

My issue turned out to be my #1 ignition coil. I have a 91 318is so I have individual coils for each cylinder so I'm assuming you may have a different problem.

I have a '91 318is with the same problem. However, it goes away when I turn the car off and let it sit for a few mintues. Then as I turn it back on and drive, as the car warms back up, the problem reoccurs. If the pump doesn't fix the problem, I'll know what to try 2nd.
