    center support beaing?

is there a center support bearing that gives out on E30's? pardon my ignorance if this is a stupid question. and are they easy/cheap to fix? a car im looking at the guy says there are a couple of problems with it. says the car shudders at like 35mph and he thinks its the center support bearing and that it may be starting to go and that there is oil leaking from somewhere, he belives the valve cover gasket. it is clean clean clean though inside and out and he we will go as low as $1800 with a cup kit, smoked smilies and a 4.10 LSD. about 180k on the odo.....opinions?

Yes, they give. Yes, they're cheap and easy to fix. Only specialty tool I think you may need is a gigantic pipe wrench for the driveshaft center.

I think it's hard to determine by words alone. Everyone has a different opinion as to what "clean clean clean" means.

in my opinion, clean is straight body panels(ie no huge dents or scrapes), orig. or new paint that isnt chipping and a interior that is clean, no cracks in the dash and seats that dont need reupholstering. no rust.

In almost all cases, a failure of the center support bearing will be caused by binding u-joints in the drive shaft. While you might gain temporary relief by just changing the CSB, you may still have vibrations and the new CSB will have a very short life. The only real fix is to replace the drive shaft and CSB.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

                jlevie is right, but..

                csb - $50
                driveshaft - $300+

just replacing the csb with a bad drive shaft might net you 30k of good driving. how long are you going to own your e30?
