    Replacing the Fuel Filter

    What's up A_325i,
In regards to replacing your fuel filter, if you are unable to unscrew the the metal fasteners, I would take some cutters and cut the rubber hoses on each end (where eye protection and take off your fuel cap, gas WILL shoot out, get a jar), purchase some new metal fasteners, and replace with the new filter. There is alot of rubber hose down there so losing an inch of it I don't think would be a problem.
But as far as your trans is conserned, I can't help you yet with that I haven't changed that yet,but I changed my fuel filter last weekend.
Hope this helps you a little.

Find an box wrench that slips onto the allen wrench for the fill plug, then use the box wrench to turn the allen thus unscrewing the fill plug. If more leverage is needed another large box wrench can be linked up with the first to get some more torque.

I just did my fuel filter yesterday. If you have a pair of Vice-Grips set them to close barely enough to pinch off the hose on the gas tank side of the filter. That'll greatly reduce the amount of fuel that pours out into whatever you're using as a catch-basin (I used an old clean litterbox :P ) and all over you while you replace the filter.
