SI Board battery replace I searched

86 E and 89 I I'm replacing bulbs and want to do the batteries.
I've not removed the cluster from the dash yet.
search keeps coming up with 2 different choices
Nicad 2 ea radio shack #23-191 1.2v AA
    or sanyo 3v cr14250SE

any help here? or just go take the cluster out first and see whats there
    Thanks

Jean will probably chime in - he knows his way around the different gauges..
Likely best off pulling cluster and replacing what's in there.

two CR14250SE batteries when in my late model VDO gauge fwiw

If I had to do it again - i'd just buy a new board if I could swing it. (although, they are kinda pricey these days)

I had a hell of a time replacing batteries.

one way or another the board has to come out I'll flip a coin then to replace or buy exchange.

early SI boards use nicad batteries. late ones use lithium cells. they aren't cross compatible.

on your '89, first measure the voltage on the batteries. if it's at least 3v, they're fine. don't mess with them. the batteries are only drained if the car's main battery is disconnected. this also means you should be careful leaving the battery disconnected for long periods of time. mine are original and still have full voltage.
