    selector rod joint replacement

I'm re-doing the bushings in my shift linkages, and have taken care of them all minus the output joint from the trans to the selector rod. I have the retainer removed, but there is a pin or something keeping it from coming off. Also, my new joint is narrower and doesn't fill out the selector shaft arm. How do I get the old one off, and is my new joint going to cause me problems?

Well - first, here's a pic of when mine came off. Yes - there is a pin.

As far as the selector shaft arm and transmission joint - sorry - I suspect that is an early/late model-specific selector and joint combination issue that I'm not familiar with.. or maybe it's a m20/g260 vs m42/g240 combination issue.

    Late model with m42/g240:

      Awesome post and awesome pics!

Looks like my little joint is for an m42. Sucky. I'll just get one from the dealer tomorrow, because I need to grab the rear carrier anyways.

How does the pin come out?

Without retainer clip around joint - the pin should slide out.

Think I pushed pin down/out from above with one of those 'dental pick' tools that are hook-shaped.

Hmmm I tried that and it didn't seem to budge, but I guess I'll try harder. I didn't realize how expensive the joints were, I may just go solid selector..
