How the heck do I get this fuel filter out?

My fuel filter is located in the engine compartment. I know how I'm supposed to remove it I just don't know how the heck I'm supposed to slide it out with everything in the way. Can someone shed some light (and possibly pics) of what you removed in order to get to the fuel filter to take it out? Much appreciated.

    UPDATES:

So I got this thing off last weekend and I wanted to post how I did it to help other members out. First things, I managed to get it off with the help of my dad, two people makes this move a bit faster.

    1) Intake hoses were removed, that is all
    2) Car was jacked up so I could loosen the clamps that held the canister to the car first
    3) Moved the canister up towards the hood where my dad caught it then unscrewed the top clamp that held the filter to the hoses first. From underneath I realized that the bottom clamp of the filter was facing away so I couldn't loosen the clamp at the bottom of the filter. Instead I removed the clamp that came directly to the gas line and then the whole piece came out. It was removed up and out of the engine, not from below.
    4) Please let it be noted that it was very hard to contort my arms around the parts in the car to get an angle to unscrew clamps. The shorter the tools the better (on early models). I used a very small allen wrench when I did it. Others have suggested a finger ratchet here or stubby screwdrivers, and I would say that is really smart.

What upset me the most about the replacement was that my new filter from Mahn was made in China. The old one was made in Germany :( . I'm pretty sure that piece had been on the car for 25 years without replacement. Right after I started it up I got the impression the car wasn't struggling as much to deliver fuel. I'm sorry I don't have pics, my hands were filthy the entire time and I didn't want to reach in my pocket and grab my phone that way. I hope this helps the rest of you out.

It's the part all the way down there. I've read it has to be removed up out of the engine and not below, though I jacked it up to loosen some of the clamps from below

That looks like the charcoal canister (emission control thing) check under your car near the rear wheel wells. I'll bet you that you'll have a fuel filter sitting there haha.

right below the white canister is the charcoal canister, which is next to the fuel filter. I have an 86', they were located in the engine bay. Later models had the convenience of being on the drivers side by the wheel well.

Exactly my question! Can I remove those two reservoirs right there on top in the picture? If so can you tell me how? If I can I'm pretty sure I could slide it up once the brackets were loosened

Just did this a few weeks ago. I just used some stubby screwdrivers and a lot of wierd arm positions and patience. I think I took off the intake boot and that was it. Also I jacked the front up and eventually took it out from the bottom.

You can unbolt the power steering reservoir and move it to the side. It's only one 10mm bolt.

I removed that bolt then tried to move it but it was also held in place by another metal bar that is like slipped into a divert just below the bolt hole. I tried to shimmy or move it around to take it out and move to the side but no luck.

The PS Reservoir slides up and out of the slot. Try pulling the bottom line from the fuel filter. Lossen the clamp on the fuel filter and it should slide up and out of the clamp. It's a tight fit, but do-able. Make sure you have a cap for the lower nipple on the fuel filter and the line or you will have gas everywhere!

It's been a while since I've done one, but I seem to remember dropping it out the bottom as well. What a mess.

Will try to do this again this coming weekend. I'll try and take pics to help anyone else, maybe sticky a tutorial if I succeed.

I recommend using pinch clamps or small vise grips to pinch off the fuel lines. Works great. Just don't pinch the line so hard you cut into it.
