why won't independent fog mod work for me?

okay, so I tried to do the independent fog mod using this write-up: http://e30.bmwdiy.info/indy-fogs/index.html

    I have an '88 ix....

so my fuse box looks exactly the same as the one pictured and has the same relays and such. I tested relay k4 terminal 30 for 12v and it was. So it had all the signs and everything that it would work, but when I bridged the two to test it...it didn't work. During the test with k4 out, the fogs would come on if I had it in the headlight position, but not with just the parking lights.

What do I need to do to make this work?

There is another way to do it also.

One of the pins need a ground and the lights turn on.
Take a test light and touch the pins to see makes it turn on.

Then get a piece of wire ground it and there u go.
The fogs will stay on even with the key out, so leaving it on will kill ur battery.

Its possible to hook-up a relay to only give a ground when the key is on....this way when the key is off they will be off also, but that was too much work. maybe one day when i get time ill do it.

Other solution would be to find a ground thats only there when the key is on, im sure there must be one somewhere in the electrical system, and splice into that.

and that won't be a problem that it'll turn on, cause I like to always turn the switch to off when I turn off my car anyway... :D

euro models dont have ind. front fogs either. and the rear fog only works when the lights are on too.
