i just got an axle out yesterday. if the axle is disconnected from the diff, you can just use a foot long piece of broom handle or some other thick round piece of wood to knock the axle shaft out of the baring with a big fucking hammer. takes about 6-8 solid blows.
the good thing about using wood on metal is it will not fuck up any mating surfaces.

Ugh, seem to be stuck now. I got the circlip out, now im trying to get the bearing out, all of the seal and beads flew out when I tried the first time, I have a slide hammer bearing, seal puller set from advance but I'm not sure what else I can grab onto to get the bearing shell out.

Ok, now I'm doing the passenger side...stuck at getting the bearing out, it won't budge and i've tried everything I had before, pb blaster, torch, pressing it from the inside which broke the 1/2 x 6" bolt in half, hammering it from the inside, what else can I try, has anyone cut one out using a dremel?

Removing the wheel hub or removing the bearing from the housing is a job for a Sir Tools B90 kit. In easy cases a slide hammer will work, but when stubborn you need the kit. The alternative to the kit is to remove the trailing arm and use a hydraulic press.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I was using a slide hammer, and then a 'homemade' bearing press tool that I found online from bimmergarage or something on youtube. I may be forced to take the TA off and take this up to a shop, imma try a bit longer but this thing isnt budging. Thanks for the quick help!

the front wheel bearing press kit from HF is a professional alternative to the Sir tool kit. Its 100 dollars.

Doesn't matter. Its called a front wheel bearing press kit because most front wheel drive car's bearings are cartridge style like rear BMW bearings. It actually won't work on the front BMW bearing.

Ah, thanks man! Still trying a few other things, I'm hoping I won't have to resort to more tools but that looks like it may be the case.

Slide hammer worked again, just another 30 minutes of really hitting it and it broke loose. I either got a bad bearing or I damaged it somehow, when lining the hub to the bearing the inner race fell out, I guess it's shot if that happens? I put the race back in, pressed the hub in and it has a good amount of play where as my driver side did not, can anyone confirm it's time to buy and try another bearing?

I should add I haven't installed the axle/nut yet, I just don't remember the other side having play when the hub was installed...

Just looked at it, the inner race on the inner side of the car seperated when pressing the hub in, looks like its time to order another bearing and be a bit more careful, thanks again.
