    speedometer question

I need to replace just the speedometer in my cluster on my 87 325is. Are they all the same or different depending on the model?

curious, what are the symptoms you are having? Is it just the speedo or the whole cluster?

It just straight doesn't work cause there are peices missing and a broken board. Previous owner tried to "fix" the odometer and ened up breaking just about everything in it short of the gauge face and needle. So I'm just gonna replace the whole thing but don't know if they are all interchangable.

you can use a cluster from another car, but there are definetly differences in years (I'm not sure which ones work in an 87). you'd want an i cluster of course, and you also need to make sure you use your coding plug in the new cluster.

You can interchange speedos as long as the little 'K=####' matches. It's stamped on the face and a couple of other places.

Common sense- It's the new 'gifted'

some of them have coding plugs and some have coding chips, you need to keep the same type and I think that they recommend that you keep the old plug or chip and swap it into your new/used cluster.
