    Intake Manifold, Fuel Injector Question

    When I was removing my intake manifold I started by pulling out the injectors before I pulled out the manifold.

    My question is could I have pulled out the intake manifold with the injectors still in place and the fuel rail disconnected at both end or would it have hit something and not come out?

    I ask because as I am reassembling I wanted to know if I could pop my injectors into the manifold when its off the car and easier to do, and then put the manifold with the injectors in place back in. Or would I run into problems and it wouldn't install properly because said injectors were hitting parts of the installation point on the way in?

    yes you can put the injectors in first, and then put the manifold on.

      On the M20, I'm pretty sure the Bentley suggests removing the intake manifold in order to remove the injectors. So, yes, you should be able to install the injectors and fuel rail, and attach the intake last.

        the bentley is wrong in that regard, there's no need to remove the manifold to remove the injectors.

          This is correct, as the OP figured out. I was using the Bentley to make the point that it's not only possible, it's recommended :)

          Personally, I'd to the injectors without removing it.

            Re-birthing this one:

            I'm replacing my Oil tube seals under the Intake Manifold and am having trouble getting to the 4 screws that remove the injectors. There are 6 clips that attach to some sensors on each injector.

            How can I remove these clips?

              I just pulled up, maybe pushed the clip/springs things things right above the injector a bit.

                I'm having trouble getting to the fuel rail mounting bolts. There are 6 metal clips that attach this loom beside the fuel rail. It's in the way of the 4 bolts to remove and pop up the injectors. The Bentley doesn't say anything about how to remove this rail and get to the 4 bolts.

                  Get a longish flat head screw driver or bar and pry up carefully from the bottom. You're talking about the wiring loom right?

                    Yup, the wiring loom, but it's retained by a clip around each side of the injector, not the top of the injector itself. I was able to get the rear one off by sticking a thin screwdriver and pop it off and the loom came up. I just don't have a thin enough flat screwdriver to pull the clips.

                    I might just give up and forget about the darn Oil Return Tube seals replacement.

                    How many screws on the Intake Manifold. I think I might me missing one. Also, do the fuel rail bolts need to be removed in order to pull the Intake Manifold?

                      If you're talking about the plugs that go into each injector (wiring plugs) they just pop right out. I pulled mine up and it popped off all of the injectors. On the FPR end, there are 2 more plugs, remove those as well. If you go on the driver side and reach under the intake mani you will feel a connector (like the o2 connecter), unscrew that and the wiring rail that plugs into each injector will be free to be removed

                      Once that's out, get a socket with an extension and remove the 4 bolts holding in the fuel rail. The injectors might take a little force getting them out, use a pry bar wrapped in a towel/big screwdriver to pop the fuel rail up. Have a rag ready for the fuel coming out of the injectors/rail

                            There should be 2 nuts on each runner of the manifold. I was thinking it had 12 nuts total, I'm probably wrong though



                            I just checked out a manifold gasket and it looked like there were 12 holes for bolts.

                              No you're right. It's 12 total. The one closest to the cabin of the car is a bitch to wiggle around shit to get to though.
