Used fuel tank or aftermarket oe style?

Hey guys I wasn't sure were I should post this, so if there's a better place for it, will a mod please move it?

I need to replace my fuel tank out of my 1989 325ix and I've got two options.

    1. I can acquire a used one locally for roughly $100

    2. I can spend a little more and get a new aftermarket oe style one like this http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...L/SPIBM1B.html
    Which I'm unsure of.

What would you guys do? I'm sort of in a pinch for time and need to resolve this within the next week or so.

dropping a fuel tank sucks. good luck.

your options depend on your car. is it a really clean ix that you see yourself still driving in 10 years? if it is, go new.

if its a beater/DD then go for a used one. just check it out and make sure its ok. drop flashight or a lightbulb into the tank to see if the inside is ok.

Thanks for the reply man, it is a beater, but I may be stuck driving it longer than intended if things keep going they way they have been.

Really the car isn't horrible, the paint has seen better days and its got the typical rust on the fenders and under the trunk/valance, buts it's not beyond repair. Plus for the price I paid (under $1000 after adding new brakes/rotors, hd shocks/shock mounts, half assed exhaust, etc) I think I could justify spending the extra $100 odd dollars.

I think I'm leaning towards a new tank, I've got this thing about doing things once and doing them right. So does anybody have suggestions on were to buy? Does blunt sell them?

Or you could buy a used tank, acid clean and re-seal it. Just did this and was a PITA but I won't have to worry about rust and fuel starvation again.

Doing a tank swap is a major PITA! I got a tank from AutoZone for around $200. Have fun.

Luckily the car is sitting in storage at a friends house who also has a lift. Should still be a pain in the ass though.

Did your autozone tank look similar to the one in the link up top?
