    Engine bay fuel pump install

Anybody come up with a clean way to install something like an 044 in the engine bay and wire it up?

Looking for inspiration on mine, was thinking on adding a relay into K9 in the fusebox and use Fuse 26 as far as wiring.

Mounting the bugger cleanly and plumbing it so it looks nice looks difficult too. Hmm. Frame rail? Fender liner? AFM bracket would be unsightly.

I had a car that had a fuel pump mounted in the engine compartment and it would not pass safety inspection. I would advise against doing this!

Why would you need to do this?

My fuel pressure regulator is 5 bar, so I went with the 044. I'm putting it in the engine bay and using the stock pump as a lift pump so that the majority of the fuel system is low pressure, and only a short section under the hood to the engine runs at the high pressure.

Figure that will be a lot gentler on the 20yr old fuel system than asking it to go 2 bar above what it was designed for in the first place.

I'm going to be using the same pump, but my plan is to put it where the early second pump used to be, and use my brand new in-tank pump as a transfer pump. And of course replace everything original in the fuel system..

since you must be doing something similar, how does that 5 bar FPR reference manifold pressure? or does it?

actually mounting it neatly under the frame rail on the drivers side seems like a decent idea. easy to get to, as well.. hrm.

            This^^^

Mounting it in that area will allow for your setup to work well but wont cause any problems later like ref or safety inspection. It will still supply ample pressure to the system but wont be shoved somewhere in the engine bay. If you dont take this advice, at least put it somewhere that will be safe and out of sight.

If you mount it in the engine compartment, it will be like having tinnitis.

                It will drive you crazy.

It is bit expensive, but not THAT bad, to just run one whole new braided line from new pump in secure stock location to FPR.

how loud is the 044? I'm assuming it's not wisper quiet to be able to flow all that fuel at high pressure..

I mounted a high pressure inline pump in my engine bay in my Camaro, even with heat shielding the underhood temps could sometimes get so high, that if I turned off the car (and pump) I would cause a vapour lock in the pump and it wouldnt start until it cooled down (usually 20min or 5min with a bag of ice sitting on top of it!)

I'm not TOO concerned about heat or inspection, Heat wise, I'm looking at the drivers side, away from the headers. PA will be fine with it as long as it's done properly. Hell the green beast in the sig has a fuel pump bolted to the engine....

nando, I have the old ancient dinosaur, the S50B32. Mine is referenced to the vacuum rail that the brake booster line is attached to, and it connects in between #5 and #6.

Hopefully if I can put that thing on something solid enough it won't be too noisy, thats part of why I didn't want it under the cab. I have it connected and ziptied to the drivers framerail now for getting the engine running, and it's not TOO bad, but I know if it has a panel to amplify itself with it could get annoying.

I'm gonna have to crawl under there and take a look, actually attaching the thing to the car is puzzling too, its a round tube. I have some conduit brackets that I think might work....

There are billet mounts on ebay for $35, no idea of the quality.

anyone happen to know what size the s54 injectors are rated at running 5 bar?
