How do I remove a sheared wheel stud?

So I sheared a wheel stud. The dealer, and Im not joking gave me a $7,000 estimate (pretty much suggested every part in the car was broken). So I am going to fix it myself. I would really appreciate some help on this. Rear hub, I stud. Thanks.

Needs a left handed drill, and you need to be left anded to operate it. Limits its effectiveness.;)

MSC, McMasters, or a machinists supply house are sources for left hand twist drill bits. And they are the right tool for the job. However, if this is a front hub I'd just replace the hub and bearing. I might hesitate briefly before replacing a rear hub, but if original there's a good chance that either end could use a new bearing. Which makes hub replacement more attractive.

A leaking rack simply needs to be replaced and on the average E30 there's a good chance that most of the rest of the suspension needs replacement also. Which makes the shop estimate sound about right.

Why in the hell would you spend the time and money to replace the hub, when you can just get the broken off stud out in 30 min?

OP - Go buy a set of ez-outs and a left hand drill bit. Harbor freight sells a set of drills for $8.99 if you are on a budget. Drill a hole in the center of the stud and if it doesn't come out while drilling, use and easy out in the hole to remove it.

If the stud is snapped off flush with the hub and you can see the top of it, you might first try using a center punch and hammer and tap it out.

Yes and its best to grind flat and use a center punch if you can.

Ok so update. So after receive the quote I made a visit to Sweeny this morning (Saturday).

I talked to the guy that was handling it and he said that the 7k was for every car that comes in, and that it was just something they do for each car. I just laughed. I then questioned him about why they still have yet to give me a break down for the lug removal, so FINALLY he does it, says I need a new hub, and 4 new lugs, and a new wheel. Says it wont be ready till Wens since the lugs and hub are not in stock.

Heres where it gets great. I proceeded to tell him that the only reason I dropped it off was to the get the lug removed and that I dont need someone to install a hub, I can do that myself IF it needs it. I told him I want my car now. He then types on the computer like he's busy and says I dont think thats possible, we can get it to you Monday. What? You cant give me my car. So at this point Im shaking, because first he's lying about the parts. Little did he know, I had already bought the lugs and checked for the hub availability at the parts counter next to him. The lug box was in my hand so I knew he was lying straight to my face, and now he says I cant have my car. So he refers me to the manager, who in turn calls the mechanic. The mechanic says the hub is fine, the lug is done, and there are 4 new lugs on the car he had extra in his toolbox...

What? So at this point they have:

1. Proven to me that their quote was full of parts I didnt need
2. Lie to me as a customer because they dont want me do the work myself
3. Lie to me saying my car is taken apart (even though I didnt authorize any work AND the car was actually already done.
4. They have no freaking clue wtf is going on.

So at this point I refuse to pay the 100 for diagnotics, grab my keys and get the hell out of there before I kill someone.

Car is fixed. Swapped wheels, installed new lugs. Gtg.
This is the the EXACT reason why I wont even let a person touch my car for an oil change none the less mechanical issues
